FOOD | What I Ate Wednesday




Here's it is!!!  I am SO guilty of skipping these Wednesday posts for more Wednesdays than I could possibly keep track of... But What I Ate Wednesdays are now back.

I have missed these, but the habit of taking pictures of everything I eat has stuck with me nonetheless.   Although slowly, I will surely fill you in on what went on last year. I have decided to start back-blogging ( ???  yes, I just made that up) on the most memorable times I didn't get to share.

Hopefully that will unveil some of the mystery :P

But what better time than TODAY to resume these delicious weekly chronicles, hm?
Here's to new beginnings and lots of great food to come!



I've been trying to cut back on processed carbs, so for breakfast, I had an egg white omellete and some dark coffee with Sucralose.  I like to have protein for breakfast, although this is not a very common thing in Argentina.

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this before, but the traditional Argentinian breakfast would be toast and jam or pastries, along with your coffee. 
 I guess I'm not very traditional :)




For lunch, I had Salmon.  Ohhh do I love Salmon?!  Grilled it and enjoyed it with a siding of brown rice and olive oil sauteed broccoli. Possibly not a very traditional lunch here either...  If anything, Argentina is known for its red meat...

[That, and maybe Maradona, Messi, Ginobili, Maxima Zorreguieta and Pope Frances!]

You would think with all that Atlantic Sea Coast we would have a diet mostly revolving around sea food... If you had that in mind, I wouldn't blame you. I mean, it would make TOTAL sense... But it's actually VERY rare to see an average Argentinian eating fish.  For some strange - and waaaay too long to explain here - reason, sea food is quite a bit more expensive than steak, and also a LOT less popular.



In the afternoon, I went out for coffee.  You can find a coffee shop every other block here.  Typically, you will see people sitting down for coffee. Unlike other countries [ like my other home Italy, where people have their ristretto standing or in America, where many just buy it and drink it on the go ] El cafe (  in spanish, the coffee) is the perfect excuse to gather around a table, share a moment with friends, have business meetings, take their notebooks and work...  you get the picture... and THAT's the most typical scene you can witness walking Buenos Aires in the afternoon.





Although more of a French tradition, than Argentinian ( blame it on my mother's side of the family ) for dinner, we shared cheese and grapes  ... oh! and some cherry tomatoes.  My parents stopped by, so my husband and I thought this would be a light option to gather around the coffee table, relax, chit chat and enjoy the evening.  Although I don't really fancy alcohol that much, we opened a bottle of red wine... 
We just HAD TO... it completed the whole french thing, don't you think? :)
